Posted February 05, 2018 07:45:37The trial of the suspect in the murder of a college professor in Idaho began Monday in the Idaho Falls City Court.
Stephen Thompson, 31, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Matthew Mika.
Mika, an adjunct professor at Boise State University, was found dead on a porch in the Boise home of Thompson’s father, Thomas Thompson, on April 15, 2018.
He was also found with a gunshot wound to his back, according to court documents.
Police say Thompson, who was living in Idaho at the time, had been stalking Mika since January 2018, after he was stopped at a traffic stop.
He allegedly drove to a house near Boise State where he was staying with his girlfriend, but returned later that day and shot Mika twice, killing him.
He then went back to Boise State to try to get a job, and went to the apartment of his ex-girlfriend, according the Idaho Statesman.
Police have not said if Thompson is related to Mika’s girlfriend, who they say has not been charged.
