NIVETHA THOMAS, N.J. (AP) Nivetta Thomas has decided to not play in the Super Bowl this year.
Thomas, who has been with the team since its inaugural season in 2008, made the announcement on Twitter Saturday.
“I want to thank everyone for the support,” he said in the tweet.
“For the past 5 years I have been able to enjoy the game with my family, my teammates, and my fans.
However, due to an injury, I am not participating in the NFL this year.”
He has been the Eagles’ starting quarterback since 2012, and his status is up in the air.
Thomas was the only Eagles starter to make it to the Superbowl.
He was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 and finished with a passer rating of 129.7 during the regular season.
