However, a new story from the New York Daily News claims that Evans, who was reportedly a frequent user of social media site Reddit, did not have access to the story and posted it with the intention of spreading false information.
This new claim is in stark contrast to the version of events in lateciathomevansstory.com, where she claims to have been shot in the back of the car.
According to the New Yorker, a source who was close to Evans told the newspaper that the story had been written in December and that Evans was not in the United States at the time.
According to the Daily News, the story has since been taken down.
“Latecia Thoms claimed she’d been a victim in a violent robbery in Brooklyn in 2012, which is false,” the website states.
“Her story was posted by a fake account, then it was quickly taken down after it became public knowledge.”
Latecia thommes story has been shared on the internet by other news outlets, including the BBC and Fox News, as well as a Reddit thread.
